Look, you are a very talented football player and you have the potential to be a great quarterback in the NFL. You have a strong arm, quick feet, a ton of athletic ability and the movement to make you and your team a success. So what are you doing??? What’s going on with you? Sit down and talk to Dr. Mama Diva for a spell. Let’s chat.

What about the NFL scares you? There has to be something to make you do the things you do. You are playing with one of most historical franchises in the NFL. You are playing for a sure-fire Hall of Fame Coach, who is the longest tenured coach in the League. You have an owner who supports you, a team who is ready for you to lead them and fans who got excited every time you stepped on the field. You were that player that Titans fans (like me) were salivating over having.

What are you afraid of?

Is it playing the game? Noooooooo can’t be. You’ve proven that you can do that many times over. Is it the limelight? I don’t think so. At the University of Texas, you were a superstar. Is it that you’re not the BMOC? Well you need to just get over that! Maybe you’re starting to doubt your worth to your team. Well that shouldn’t be a problem, look at your record in the NFL. Look how great the team did at the end of last season when you came back? Is it the coaching staff? I don’t see how. Tennessee has one of the best and most consistent coaching staffs in the league. They have been bending over backwards to help you be the best you can be. (At least that’s how it looked to me)

OK let me just say this and get it out of the way. I’m tired of pussyfooting around.

GET OVER IT!!!!

You’re almost 28 years old. You’re a PROFESSIONAL football player in the NFL. You have a team, an organization and a fan base depending on you doing your job. Your job? Getting your ass on the field during games, practice, workouts, OTA’s or whatever team activity is happening, official and unofficial. Your responsibility? To study film, the playbook, meet with the coaches and anything you have to do to get prepared for the game. Your reward? The satisfaction of knowing that you’ve done the best you can do to get the best outcome possible AND YOUR PAYCHECK!!

I understand that the pressure may be too much sometimes, but you know what you have to do. Put on your big boy pants and deal with it! Real Men don’t run away from their problems; real men don’t pout when they don’t get their way; real men don’t throw their uniforms into the stands. Real men don’t send a text message apology. A real man would go to that person and apologize face to face. I am not even going to start on you showing up at a game and leaving before it was over. Boy, I could smack you upside your head!

You’ve shown flashes of greatness and flashes of maturity. You handled defeat graciously when Reggie Bush’s name was announced at the Heisman trophy presentation…show that maturity level now! Despite what you may think, we do not want Kerry Collins as our starting QB. You may be a special talent, but you are not irreplaceable! Cam Newton looks just as good coming out of Auburn as you did out of Texas – maybe better. Bud Adams may like you, but he is not going to put his franchise on hold for you! If you won’t act right, he’ll find someone who will!

Now get your mind right, get your s**t together, check your attitude, suck it up and do what you were drafted to do, do what you’re getting paid to do, do what you know how to do!

Do not make me have to drive the 4 hours to Nashville or the 14 hours to Houston to have this talk again. Dr. Mama Diva does not like to repeat herself but I will if I have to and that’s not good for anyone!

One more thing, on your team bio, you listed sleep as one of your hobbies. Seriously Vince?? Not a good look. Grow up, get your mind right and stop acting like a spoiled child!

Sincerely,

Dr. Mama Diva

Sports Cynts Sports Talk Cooking Show Recipe Blog

We had a great show on Friday. Should college athletes be paid to pay college sports was the topic and we had some great comments. The show got so involved that the recipe didn't get finished. As promised here is the recipe for the Cinnamon Apple Scones. Enjoy!

Cinnamon Apple Scones

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons shortening, chilled
2 apple - peeled, cored and chopped
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup plain yogurt
2 tablespoons milk
1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar
1/4 cup sliced almonds (optional)

Directions

1.Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2.Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a mixing bowl. Using the dough mixer on your mixer cut in the shortening with the flour mixture until it resembles coarse corn meal.

3. We talked about the first round of the NFL Draft where Tim Tebow was taken in the first round and we’re waiting to see where Myron Rolle will go! I’ve been saying that any team that selected Tebow or Rolle would be getting great teammates who will work hard and do what it takes to be successful. Plus they’re 2 of the highest character guys with strong work ethics in this year’s draft.

Another offshoot topic was how AFC and NFC teams looked to me when I was young, based on how gritty the picture was on AFC games channel and how clear and bright it was on the NFC games channel.

Here is the recipe for the dessert we prepared - Mini Swirl Cheesecakes:

Mini Swirl Cheesecakes

6 Oreo cookies
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
2 eggs
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2/3 cup sugar
4 squares semisweet baking chocolate
Muffin Tin
Foil or Paper baking cups

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2. Line muffin tins with 12 foil or paper baking cups.

3. Divide Oreos in half making sure each half has cream on it. Place cream-topped cookies in the baking cups, cream side up.

4. In a medium mixing bowl beat cream cheese until fluffy. Add eggs, lemon juice, and sugar and beat until smooth and thoroughly combined.

5. Place chocolate in a microwavable bowl. Microwave on high 1 to 1 ½ minutes or until chocolate is melted. After 1 minute, the squares will retain their shape until you stir them. If they’re not completely melted, continue microwaving in 15 second increments until melted (up to 1 ½ minutes).

6. Place about 1 heaping tablespoon of mixture into each muffin cup.

7. Add 6 tablespoons of the cream cheese batter to the melted chocolate. Beat until well blended. Spoon chocolate mixture over plain mixture in muffin cups and top with the remaining cream cheese batter. Swirl the chocolate and cream cheese batters together with a knife before baking..

8. Bake in preheated oven for 17 to 22 minutes. Cool on a rack. Pipe whipped cream or sweetened cream cheese on top of each cheesecake just prior to serving, if desired.

Don’t forget that I’m still looking for sponsorship to go to the 2010 Pro Football Hall of Fame Experience in Canton, Ohio August 6 – 9. I’ll blog, tweet and hopefully do my show on location if I get there!

Remember: Let your presence be a blessing to others.

Thank you for joining us and thank you for your support!

Sports Cynts Show Recipe Ingredients for April 23, 2010

The Theme of this Friday’s show is “Mixing it Up”! We talked about turnovers in coaching, players and during the game. Some of the turnovers discussed were Donovan McNabb being shopped by the Eagles, LT going to the Jets, Brett Favre’s migration through the league, Shaq’s many moves, A-Rod’s high price relocation, Lane Kiffin going to USC after Pete Carroll left for Seattle, Mike Holmgren, Eric Mangini and many other personnel changes through the years. We talked bracket busters. I also mentioned my quest to go to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival August 6 - 9. Our recipe for the day was Tasty Taco Turnovers.

Tasty Taco Turnovers

Ingredients
½ pound ground beef
¼ cup taco sauce
2 teaspoons chili powder
¼ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
10 oz refrigerated pizza dough
¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 egg
1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon of water

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

2. Cook ground beef in a skillet until brown. Drain off fat.

3. Mix in the taco sauce, chili powder, onion powder, and garlic powder. Set the filling aside.

4. Roll the pizza dough into a 14 x 10½ inch rectangle. Cut into twelve 3½ inch squares. Divide filling among dough squares. Sprinkle the top of the filling with cheese.

5. Brush the edges of the dough with 1 tablespoon of water. Lift and stretch one corner of each square to the opposite corner making a triangle.

6. Seal the edges by pressing with a fork.

7. Arrange turnovers on a parchment paper-covered baking sheet. Prick with fork. Mix the egg and the 1 teaspoon water and brush on top of turnovers.

8. Bake in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Please join me this Friday for a different kind of Sports Cynts. Join me on Friday to find out more!

You can listen to a replay of the show on http://www.blogtalkradio.com/sportscynts and on iTunes.

I welcome your feedback on the show and the recipes on my blog at www.sportscynts.blogspot.com, on Facebook at the Sports Cynts fan page; on Twitter @SportsCynts or e-mail me at SportsCynts@aol.com.

Thank you for your support.

Remember: Let your presence be a blessing to others!

Sports Cynts Show Recipe Ingredients for April 2, 2010

I have a great show planned for Friday, April 2 at 12:30 p.m. ET at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/sportscynts!

The theme for this week is Turnovers! Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease 8 cups in the muffin pan with the Pam cooking spray.
2. Spread the pecans in a baking pan and place in the oven for 2 – 3 minutes or until lightly toasted.
3. While waiting for the pecans to finish, begin rolling out the pastry.
4. Once the pecans are finished, remove them from the oven and immediately turn the oven down to 325 degrees.
5. Cut 8 pastry circles (about 4 ½ - 5 inches). Fit pastry circles into greased muffin cups.
6. In a large bowl, combine eggs, sugar, butter, corn syrup, and vanilla extract. Mix completely, then stir in the toasted pecans. Pour an equal amount of mixture into each pastry-lined muffin cup.
7. We talked about the Ladanian Tomlinson and Brian Westbrook being released and where they may possibly end up…if anywhere. Baseball was mentioned! The NFL Combine was also talked about. Which quarterbacks are participating? What is the purpose of the Combine? Is it better to have a Pro Day at the school or participate in the Combine?

The 2 recipes for this week were Cyntsational Sliders and Peach Turnovers!

Cyntsational Sliders
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon Montreal Steak seasoning
          or
The Seasonings of your choice
1 pound ground beef/chuck/sirloin
(3-inch) buns or rolls (about 8), split in half
Your favorite Burger trimmings
Mixing bowl
Baking sheet
Rolling pin
Plastic wrap

Preheat either your George Foreman Grill (or equivalent) or your griddle/pan to 350 degrees.

Combine the spices and meat in a medium bowl until thoroughly mixed.

Line a baking sheet pan with parchment paper and place the ground meat in the middle of the pan. Cover the meat with a large sheet of plastic wrap and roll meat with a rolling pin until it covers the surface of the pan or until it is about ¼ inch high. Remove the plastic wrap. Use a sharp knife to cut the meat into even squares.

(optional) Preheat your oven to 250 degrees. Wrap the buns in foil and place in the oven for 6 to 7 minutes until warm.

Meanwhile, do one of these options:
• Place the burgers on the grill and cook for 4 to 5 minutes
• Place the burgers on the griddle/pan and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side.

Remove the buns from the oven and cut each one in half. Assemble the sliders on the buns with meat and the condiments/accessories of your choice.

Peach Turnovers
Either 1 - 29 oz can or 2 - 15 oz cans of sliced peaches (cut into smaller pieces)
1/3 Cup brown sugar (You may substitute granulated sugar or split them ½ and ½)
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 sheets of frozen puff pastry , thawed
Cinnamon sugar/mixed
Mixing bowl
Parchment paper
Baking Sheet

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Combine the peaches, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg together in a mixing bowl.

Lay the puff pastry sheets on the parchment covered baking sheet (You may have to do one sheet at a time). Cut the pastry sheets into quarters (sprinkle with cinnamon, if desired).

Spoon some of the peach mixture lengthwise on one half of each rectangle, leaving ½” edge to seal. Fold over the other half and press to seal. Using a sharp knife cut small slits into the top of each turnover for steam vents.

Sprinkle cinnamon-sugar on top of the turnovers and place into oven. Bake 15-17 minutes until golden brown.

Remove from oven and serve when cool.

I welcome any feedback of the show and the recipes either on this blog or on my Facebook Sports Cynts Fan Page. Also post pictures of the dishes that you prepare from the recipes if you take them.

One of my goals for the upcoming football season is to attend the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival on August 6 - 9, 2010. This includes the Enshrinement Ceremony and the Game. I'll be accepting donations and sponsorships if anyone would like to help me with this. The website will be up next week with the details of my plans! The Sports Cynts Hall of Fame Expedition is underway!!
Join us next week for more sports and more food!

Thank you for your support.

Sports Cynts Show Recipe Ingredients for February 26, 2010

Please join me tomorrow – February 26 at 12:30 p.m. ET - for a great show at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/sportscynts. The main topic was Tiger Woods and his press conference. I don’t think Tiger owed anyone an apology except his family and maybe his sponsors. No matter what he said or how he was going to do the press conference, it was going to be analyzed, scrutinized, over analyzed and over scrutinized. My being a fan of his has nothing to do with his personal life, only what he does on the golf course.

I also gave my opinion on the Winter Olympic Games. Who came up with Curling and why is it a sport, not to mention an Olympic Sport? I don’t watch much of the Olympics, but I do keep up with the medal count. As of show time, the U.S. was ahead of all other nations in total number of medals (18) and in each medal!

Stars not participating in the NBA Slam Dunk Competition made it boring and the upcoming NFL Combine and Draft were other subjects of the show.

The appetizer for today was Chicken Pockets and today’s dessert was Apple Pockets. The recipes are below.

Chicken Pockets
4 servings

3 oz softened cream cheese
2 tablespoons milk
¼ teaspoon salt
Dash black pepper
2 cups cooked and diced chicken
2 tablespoons finely chopped green onions
1 8-ounce tube refrigerated crescent rolls
2 tablespoons melted butter
Mixing bowl
Parchment paper
Baking sheet

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place a sheet of parchment paper on the baking sheet.

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese and milk. Stir in the salt, pepper and green onions. Add the chicken and mix thoroughly.

Unroll the crescent rolls and place them on the parchment-covered baking sheet, but don’t separate the dough into the crescent roll triangles. Press the dotted seams between each crescent roll until the line splitting the crescent rolls is not visible.

Place ¼ of the mix in the center of each rectangle and bring the corners up to the center. Press the seams to seal.

Brush the top of the pockets with the melted butter. We discussed the NFL Conference Championships, the Pro Bowl Game, the NFL overtime and the upcoming NBA All-Star Game. We also baked Chris Bars and Snug Snacks to enjoy.

Today’s discussions: Will Brett Favre come back next year? I’ll wait and find out once next season starts. Will Kurt Warner retire? Probably, since he’s holding a press conference (he announced his retirement Friday afternoon) I like the Pro Bowl game and I think the players who were voted in should be made to play and if they don’t want to play, then they should at least be required to attend. Bring back the skills competitions, the strongest and fasted man competitions and the obstacle course from Superstars! Change the overtime. Make it an extra quarter – not a full15 minutes – 8 minutes. Give each team the opportunity to get the ball. Right now it’s basically the team that wins the coin toss will win, unless they don’t get good field position for some reason. The NBA All Star game will be played in Cowboy Stadium on Valentine’s Day. There are 6 first time players on the roster. I think LeBron should participate in the Slam Dunk competition since he hasn’t done it before. I’m looking forward to the weekend’s festivities.

Here are the recipes for the appetizer and dessert we prepared today.

Snug Snacks

Ingredients:
1 12-ounce package cooked sausage or cooked hot dogs
1 8-ounce sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
Dipping sauce of your choice - mustard, bbq sauce, ketchup
Parchment paper
Baking sheet

Preheat oven to 400° F.
Cut the sausages/hot dogs in quarters lengthwise, then in half crosswise.
Cut the puff pastry into strips 3 inches long and 1 inch wide. Roll the hot dog/sausage pieces in the pastry strips.
Place on the parchment lined baking sheet and bake 15 - 20 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
Serve with your choice of condiments for dipping.

Chris Bars

Ingredients:
1 ½ cups Graham Cracker Crumbs
1 - 12 oz pkg of Reese’s Peanut Butter Chips
2 - 12 oz pkg of Nestle’s Milk Chocolate Chips
1 - 14 oz can Eagle Sweetened Condensed Milk
1/2 stick of Butter
1 - 8 oz pkg of Heath Toffee Chips (opt.)
1 cup pecans (opt.)
1 glass 9 x 13 casserole dish
Parchment or aluminum foil paper

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.

Line the bottom and sides of the casserole dish with the parchment or foil paper. Put the butter in the lined dish and place in the oven until the butter is melted.

Spread the graham cracker crumbs in the bottom of the dish, mixing them in with the butter until they completely cover the bottom of the dish.

Pour the sweetened condensed milk over the graham cracker crumbs completely covering them. Spread the chocolate and peanut butter chips over the condensed milk pressing down slightly to settle the chips into the condensed milk. If you choose to use them, sprinkle the pecans then the toffee chips on top.

Place in the dish in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the toffee is melted or the condensed milk begins to bubble through the chips and brown slightly. Do not overbake or the graham cracker crust will burn.

Remove from the oven and cool for 5 to 7 minutes then cut through the bars to make them easier to cut when completely cooled.

Once the bars are completely cooled, cut and store in an airtight container.

You can also use white chips and butterscotch chips or your choice of nuts as the toppings.

Thank you for joining us!

Make your presence a blessing to others!

Sports Cynts Show Recipe Ingredients for January 29, 2010

Please join me Friday, January 29 at 12:30 p.m. ET - for a great show at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/sportscynts. We talked about the steroid/performance enhancing drug controversy in sports and whether those athletes who are proven to have used them should be allowed in the Hall of Fame.

We also talked about college coaches not fulfilling their contracts and leaving to go to other jobs. Should they be made to complete their contracts and should the kids be allowed to change schools without having to sit out a year?

Thanks to Donni Coley, Executive Producer of End Zone to End Zone for calling in to offer her perspective on the topics.

Today’s recipe was Quick Chicken Quesadillas. Here is the recipe:

QUICK CHICKEN QUESADILLAS

Tyson Fajita Chicken breasts strips
Margarine or Butter
Bell Pepper
Onions
Shredded Mexican four cheese package
Flour tortillas
Cilantro (optional)
Sour cream and Pico de Gallo or Salsa for dipping
Pam Cooking spray
Skillet

Sauté the onion and bell pepper with the margarine or butter in the skillet over medium heat until they’re tender, but not mushy. Clean the residue from the bell pepper, onion and margarine out of the skillet to use in cooking the quesadilla. Coat the skillet with Pam cooking spray and return to the heat. Place the tortilla in the skillet and let it heat for 5 seconds. Place the chicken, sautéed onion and bell pepper on one half of the tortilla. Add the cheese. Fold the empty half of the tortilla over the filled side and heat on each side turning once until the cheese is melted and the quesadilla is heated through. Remove from the heat, slice into thirds or fourths and serve with sour cream and pico de gallo. You can also add lettuce and nacho cheese as a garnish if you like.

If you weren’t able to listen to the show live or you would like to hear it again, you can still listen to the taped recording at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/sportscynts.

Thanks again to Donni Coley of End Zone to End Zone – Atlanta's only live broadcast show dedicated solely to football. We talk football 365. The show can be heard at www.endzonetoendzone.com on Fridays at 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Check out the website and listen to the show. You'll enjoy it!

Remember: If you're in the Atlanta area, bring your donations for the Haiti Earthquake Relief Effort (HERE - I just made that up!) to Ambiance Lounge, 5580 Memorial Drive, Stone Mountain, GA 30083 (across the street from the old Kroger) from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on this Sunday. No donation is too big or to small.
Please join us next week (January 22) for more sports talk and great recipes that you can complete in 1 hour or less.

Thanks!

Make your presence a blessing to others!

Cynthia

Donations for Haiti - Ambiance Lounge, Stone Mountain, GA

A friend sent me this information. It's a departure from sports talk, but I feel this is more important. Please feel free to share this with everyone you know, especially those in the Atlanta area.

Together we can make a difference.

Although some of us have given financial contributions, many people have expressed a desire to do more to help the relief efforts in Haiti. I talked about the BCS Championship – Congratulations to Alabama in there defeat of the Texas Longhorns 37-21. Nick Saban is the 2nd coach to win 2 BCS Championships and the only coach to do it with 2 different schools. Mark Ingram is the 2nd player to win the Heisman Trophy and the BCS Championship in the same year. He is also the 2nd running back to win the Heisman Trophy and any national championship in the same year.

This weekend’s NFL Wild Card Games were discussed - Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnatti Bengals vs. New York Jets on Saturday. On Sunday, Green Bay Packers vs. Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens vs. New England Patriots.

Another topic was my feelings on athletes with weapons centering mainly on what’s going on with Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards.

Two delicious recipes were prepared on the show: Fruit Salsa w/Cinnamon Chips and Cynt’s Secret Sauce Meatballs.

Here are the recipes for this week:

FRUIT SALSA WITH CINNAMON CHIPS

2 kiwis, peeled and diced
2 Golden Delicious apples - peeled, cored and diced
8 ounces raspberries
1 pound strawberries
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
3 tablespoons fruit preserves, any flavor

10 (10 inch) flour tortillas
butter flavored cooking spray
2 cups cinnamon sugar

In a large bowl, thoroughly mix kiwis, Golden Delicious apples, raspberries, strawberries, white sugar, brown sugar and fruit preserves. Cover and chill in the refrigerator at least 15 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

Coat one side of each flour tortilla with butter flavored cooking spray. Cut into wedges and arrange in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Sprinkle wedges with desired amount of cinnamon sugar. Spray again with cooking spray.

Bake in the preheated oven 8 to 10 minutes. Repeat with any remaining tortilla wedges. Allow to cool approximately 15 minutes. Serve with chilled fruit and spice mixture.

This fruit salsa is good with the cinnamon chips, but also as a topping for ice cream or pound cake, to mix with yogurt or even as a stand alone snack!

CYNT'S SECRET SAUCE MEATBALLS

1 bag (16 oz) Armour original meatballs (you can use more meatballs with same amount of sauce ingredients if you don’t want them swimming in sauce!)
1 bottle (16 oz) Kraft Honey Hickory BBQ Sauce
1 cup Kraft Catalina Dressing
¼ cup Kraft Zesty Italian Dressing
1/8 cup Pompeiian Burgundy Cooking Wine (Shhh Secret Ingredient)
Crock pot

Combine everything in the crock pot. Stir until well combined. Turn crock pot on high to heat the meatballs through. Cook until sauce bubbles and stir occasionally. - This recipe can be easily doubled.
1 egg white
1 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups pecans

Whip egg white until a little frothy. Slowly add brown sugar. Mix in flour, salt and vanilla. Add pecans and stir until they are thoroughly mixed in.

Grease the cookie sheet lightly with Pam or use parchment paper on the cookie sheet. Spread the candy mixture onto the greased or papered cookie sheet and spread it out to your preferred thickness.

Bake at 250 degrees for 45 minutes or until it is brown. Once the candy has cooled, break it into pieces and store in an airtight container.

Pepperoni Nibblers
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup chopped pepperoni (for easy mixing you can shred mozzarella cheese and pepperoni together in a chopper or food processor)
1/2 cup pizza sauce
20 refrigerated biscuits or refrigerated pizza dough
Milk
Grated Parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease (or paper) a baking sheet.

In a bowl combine the mozzarella, pepperoni and pizza sauce. Set aside while you prepare the biscuits.

Flatten each biscuit to about 3-inch circles. If you're using pizza dough, cut the dough into 20 3-inch circles. Place about 1 tablespoon of filling in the center of each circle. Bring the edges of the dough together and pinch to seal.

Do one of these 2 steps next:
- Place the nibblers seam side down to completely contain the filling while baking.
or
- Leave the nibblers seam side up and they'll open a little while baking for a tart look.

Brush the tops (seam side up or down) with milk and sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Bake in the 350 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden. Serve warm.

Thank you for your support and Enjoy!!!!

Sports Cynts Show for 12/31/09 Recipe Ingredients

Good afternoon!

Please join me tomorrow – Thursday, New Year's Eve - December 31 at 12:30 p.m. ET - for a great show at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/sportscynts. Or Something Else?

The NFL has made a major change to the Pro Bowl and I'm not happy about it!

No, it doesn't bother me that they've moved it from Hawai'i (I wasn't going anyway - at least not this year). What bothers me is that they've moved it to the week before the Super Bowl. The week BEFORE???? What the ****?? (insert your own 4-letter word)

Do you know what that means? It means that any player from the 2 best teams in the league won't get to play in the Pro Bowl - even if they wanted to.

Let's say that the Saints and the Colts (2 previously undefeated teams) win their respective championships and get to the Big Game. The quarterbacks of those 2 teams (Peyton Manning and Drew Brees) were selected as starters to the Pro Bowl. Do you seriously think Sean Payton and Jim Caldwell are going to let the anchors of their teams play in an All-Star game the week before the Championship?? I don't think so!!! Would you if you were the coach of the team? Not to mention all the other players from those 2 teams who were selected.

Why would the NFL make this change? Because they want to bring more credibility to the Pro Bowl? Naw that can't be it, because if anything, they've made the game even less credible because many of the elected starters may not be available to play in the game.

Maybe they want to make sure you watch the game and it doesn't coincide with a wrestling pay-per-view or a major basketball game. If I were the NBA or WWE, I'd schedule an event the week between the championship games and the Super Bowl. Plus, if you want to watch wrestling or basketball, you're going to do it no matter what else is showing.

Football fans will need something to hold them over so we have to keep it the NFL going without a break and we don't want to lose the die-hard football fan? Really? The die-hard football fan is going to watch it no matter which week the game is on.

The week leading up to the Pro Bowl wasn't just about the game. It was also about the skills competitions, the fan events, the season wrap-ups on ESPN, the NFL Network, Sporting News Radio, etc. It was about having fun and relaxing after the Championship!! AFTER!!! It was also about the possibility of everyone who was able to play getting a chance to play because it's the last game of the season!!! Yeah, there is always a chance one of your favorites wouldn't play because they don't want to, but more often than not, you got to see the best of the AFC against the best of the NFC. What are you going to see on January 31, 2010??? Some good players of the AFC against some good players of the NFC. Yahoo...whoopty doo!

Bring on the NFL's fastest man contest! Oops wait, if Adrian Peterson or DeSean Jackson is playing in the Superbowl, we won't get to see him in that race. Ok how about the passing competition. Oh dangit, Philip Rivers could be in the Super Bowl too? How about the NFL's best hands competition - Oh hold up, Larry Fitzgerald and Reggie Wayne won't be able to participate if the Cardinals or Colts make the Super Bowl. The NFL Strongest Man contest? Dwight Freeney, Alan Faneca or James Harrison might not be available because of the Super Bowl. Dang! When is the next WWE Pay Per View?

Ok I've vented enough. I'm only one person and I'm sure Commissioner Roger Goddell isn't interested in my opinion...at least not until I can get a one-on-one with him! Anyone with any NFL Connections are welcome to send him my way! I'll be available on February 14 - AHA! Now I know the reason the game was changed! In that case...good looking out Commissioner Goddell!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://sportscynts.blogspot.com/2009/12/for-love-of-football-or-something-else.html' title='For the Love of Football?? Let sit at room temperature for 1 hour or in refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours, enough for the berries to thaw before serving.

I suggest thawing the frozen fruit out a little or making the trifle earlier so that the fruit is completely thawed out.

One variation is to cut the pound cake in half lengthwise and spread strawberry or other fruit preserves between the layers before cubing.

Tomorrow is the beginning of a new venture for me. I watched Vince Young run and pass in the game to get his team down the field and help them win. Then after the game, the comments I kept hearing were about Vince Young needing to become more comfortable staying in the pocket.

WHY?

Because that's the way it's been done? Who's to say an athletic/running quarterback can't win a Superbowl? What rule is there that says until Vince Young becomes a pocket passer he won't be successful? I thought the whole objective of playing football is to help your team win? Why does the QB need to stay in the pocket for that to happen? Just because a non-pocket quarterback hasn’t won the Superbowl yet, doesn’t mean that it won’t happen. John Elway and Steve Young didn’t stay in the pocket and their teams won Superbowls. John Elway even rushed for a touchdown in his first Superbowl win.

What’s really interesting is that some of the analysts who say that quarterbacks like Young and Michael Vick need to become pocket passers either never won The Big Game or weren’t big contributors to their teams winning the championship. Knowing that, it almost sounds like they may either be a little envious of the skills of the “new” quarterback or want to make themselves sound like more of a contributor than they actually were to their teams.

My advice to Michael Vick, Vince Young and other quarterbacks who have similar skills is to continue being you. Hone your craft until you can do it in your sleep. Don’t let anyone try to change the type of football player you are!

Did Earl Campbell let anyone change his running style? Did Lawrence Taylor let anyone change the way he got after the quarterback? Will Jerry Jones let anyone change his management style? No and today, they’re considered some of the most successful men in football.

Did Bill Gates let anyone tell him that his style of software wouldn’t work? Did Oprah listen to anyone who told her that her media style would never catch on? Did Madonna change her show style because of critics? NO and they are all successful in their fields.
Why? Because they stuck to what they knew was right for them. They didn’t change to get favorable reviews or stop their critics.

All anyone can ask of you is to be the best you that you can be. Believe me, once your championship night happens, your critics will jump on your bandwagon. At that point, you can tell them to go kick rocks!

A New Overtime is Overdue

Let me start off by saying, I am NOT a sports analyst. I don’t know how to break down the 3-4 or Cover 2 defense. I can’t explain how to run the pick and roll. I don’t know how to distinguish the curve ball from the knuckle ball. I can’t tell you when a defensive holding call should have been called and there’s no way I can explain the intricacies of a golf swing. What I do know is that when a running back crosses the goal line, the basketball goes in the hoop, the baseball flies out of the park and he golf ball goes in the hole…points are scored and money is made.

Basically, I’m a sports fan. I’m a sports fan who also just happens to be a woman. In some people’s minds that may make me less knowledgeable about sports and in some instances that may be true. I can’t throw a perfect spiral, but I can show you how to hold a football so you won’t fumble it. I can’t throw a 45 yard pass, but I can show you a good way to tackle a wily wide receiver who catches one. But don't get it twisted, I can hold my own in a sports discussion.

I love watching sports, especially football. From August to February, you can find me either at home watching football, at a sports bar watching football or at a friend’s house watching football. I love football! I love the bruising hits, the long passes, the breakaway runs, the acrobatic catches and even the kick to send the game into overtime!

And speaking of overtime, it’s time the NFL improved its overtime. Right now it basically comes down to the first person to get the ball is going to win. There’s always the chance that the other team will get the football and have the opportunity to score, but as far as I’m concerned, that should be a required part of the game.

If my memory serves me right (from 20 years ago), in Texas high school football, if the game was tied at the end of regulation, the winner was decided on by penetrations – the team that got past their opponent’s 20-yard line the most times during the game won. Seriously?? The college overtime while it isn’t perfect, is a little better...each team gets 4 downs from the 20 to score with mandatory 2-point conversions thrown in the mix. That’s not a bad idea, but what about the fans? The whole overtime is spent at one end of the field, cheating the fans at the other end of the field.
Isn't the reason the stadiums are made bigger and better for the fans?

I haven’t seen an overtime system I like, but I do have an idea. Make overtime an extra quarter. A regular quarter is 15 minutes. That’s too long for overtime, so how about making it a 5 or 8 minute quarter. That way each team can get a chance on offense and the teams move down the field as the action moves down the field. That will make it more competitive for the players and more enjoyable for the fans. With the overtime as it currently is, you can almost see the players who don’t win the overtime coin toss get deflated because they know that more than likely, the team that wins the toss is going to run a couple of downs and as soon as they get close enough for their kicker, they’re going to kick a field goal…FINAL…END OF GAME.

Now there have been many times when the offense has given up the ball or not progressed far enough down field for their kicker to chip it in or the kicker has missed the field goal, but I’m guessing that only happens 15-20 percent of the time. By making overtime an extra quarter, it’s not who scores first, but who can control the ball the longest and then score. It comes down to all the things that make football great – coach outthinking coach, players fighting it out on the field…simple, pure gamesmanship. That’s what football is about!! Not who can win the coin toss and score first. That is about as exciting as watching a 3-point shootout between Reggie Miller and John Daly.

So, Mr. Commissioner, Roger Goddell and the NFL Competition Committee, I think it’s time to scrap the current overtime system and try something new. Since it doesn’t look like you’re going to bring back the Sack Dances, the End Zone Celebrations or the Ickey Shuffle, do something to keep the fans interested in overtime. Don’t let football go the way of Major League Baseball and take itself so seriously that common sense has almost become extinct. Keep it simple and throw in some excitement!

Major League Baseball??? I’ll save that for next time.
