Sports Cynts Show for April 2, 2010

We had a blast on Turnover Friday! We talked about turnovers in coaching, players and during the game. Some of the turnovers discussed were Donovan McNabb being shopped by the Eagles, LT going to the Jets, Brett Favre’s migration through the league, Shaq’s many moves, A-Rod’s high price relocation, Lane Kiffin going to USC after Pete Carroll left for Seattle, Mike Holmgren, Eric Mangini and many other personnel changes through the years. We talked bracket busters. I also mentioned my quest to go to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival August 6 - 9. Our recipe for the day was Tasty Taco Turnovers.

Tasty Taco Turnovers

Ingredients
½ pound ground beef
¼ cup taco sauce
2 teaspoons chili powder
¼ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
10 oz refrigerated pizza dough
¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 egg
1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon of water

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

2. Cook ground beef in a skillet until brown. Drain off fat.

3. Mix in the taco sauce, chili powder, onion powder, and garlic powder. Set the filling aside.

4. Roll the pizza dough into a 14 x 10½ inch rectangle. Cut into twelve 3½ inch squares. Divide filling among dough squares. Sprinkle the top of the filling with cheese.

5. Brush the edges of the dough with 1 tablespoon of water. Lift and stretch one corner of each square to the opposite corner making a triangle.

6. Seal the edges by pressing with a fork.

7. Arrange turnovers on a parchment paper-covered baking sheet. Prick with fork. Mix the egg and the 1 teaspoon water and brush on top of turnovers.

8. Bake in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
